Ingredients
Method
Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, instant yeast, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and egg together.
- Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until a rough dough forms.
Kneading and Rising
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
Preparing the Filling
- While the dough is rising, combine the diced apples and lemon juice in a small bowl.
- Add the brown sugar and cinnamon to the apples, mix well, and set aside.
Shaping the Dough
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently and turn it out onto a floured surface.
- Roll the dough into a rectangle about 12x18 inches.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border.
Creating the Swirl
- Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log.
- Pinch the seams to seal, then place the log seam side down.
Final Rising and Baking
- Carefully transfer the log to a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.
- Cover with a kitchen towel and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes until it puffs up.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Once the loaf has risen, brush with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
Cooling and Serving
- Remove the loaf from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
- Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
