Ingredients

For the Noodle Bake
  • 12 ounces egg noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef (lean) for healthier options
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 cup sour cream use full-fat for creaminess or Greek yogurt for a healthier twist
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or a blend for extra flavor
For Topping
  • 1 cup additional shredded cheese cheddar or mozzarella
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley optional

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to boil and add the egg noodles. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 7-9 minutes.
  3. While the noodles are cooking, heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
  4. Stir in the tomato sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning, allowing it to simmer for another 3-5 minutes.
  5. In a large bowl, combine the cooked noodles with the sour cream and half of the cheese mixture. Mix thoroughly until evenly coated.
  6. Add the beef mixture into the noodle and creamy mixture, stirring until well combined.
  7. Transfer the whole mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish and spread it out evenly. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
  8. Bake it in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

Prepare the casserole a day in advance and store it in the fridge. Reheat in the oven for best flavor. This dish can be frozen before baking.
