Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface until it's approximately ¼ inch thick.
- Cut the puff pastry into strips, about 1 inch wide and 8 inches long.
Filling and Shaping
- In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded cheese, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- Take a strip of pastry and place about a teaspoon of the cheese filling at one end. Fold the strip over to enclose the cheese and twist it gently.
- Repeat this for all strips.
Baking
- Place the twists on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they’re evenly spaced apart. Brush each twist with the beaten egg.
- Bake for approximately 15-20 minutes or until the twists are puffed and golden brown.
- Allow the twists to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in an oven or toaster oven to regain their crispiness. Can also use gluten-free puff pastry for dietary needs.
