Ingredients

For the Puff Pastry
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry (thawed in the fridge overnight)
  • 1 egg (beaten for egg wash)
For the Filling
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (e.g., mozzarella, cheddar, or your favorite blend) Choose quality options for the best melt and flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning (dried oregano, basil, and thyme)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface until it's approximately ¼ inch thick.
  3. Cut the puff pastry into strips, about 1 inch wide and 8 inches long.
Filling and Shaping
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded cheese, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  2. Take a strip of pastry and place about a teaspoon of the cheese filling at one end. Fold the strip over to enclose the cheese and twist it gently.
  3. Repeat this for all strips.
Baking
  1. Place the twists on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they’re evenly spaced apart. Brush each twist with the beaten egg.
  2. Bake for approximately 15-20 minutes or until the twists are puffed and golden brown.
  3. Allow the twists to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in an oven or toaster oven to regain their crispiness. Can also use gluten-free puff pastry for dietary needs.
