Preparation
- In a bowl, combine the beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and 1 teaspoon of cornstarch. Mix well and let it marinate for about 10 minutes.
- While the beef is marinating, prepare the sauce by mixing 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, sesame oil, and black pepper in a small bowl. Set aside.
Cooking
- Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add a splash of oil. Once hot, add the marinated beef in batches, allowing it to sear without overcrowding the pan. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until browned, then remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add another splash of oil, then toss in the sliced onions. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until they become soft and slightly caramelized.
- Add minced garlic and ginger to the onions, stirring frequently for about 30 seconds until aromatic.
- Return the cooked beef to the skillet, pour the sauce over the mixture, and toss everything together. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until heated through and the sauce thickens slightly.
- Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles for a truly authentic experience.
Notes
Choose the Right Beef: Always slice against the grain for tender pieces. Don’t Overcook the Onions: Aim for a balance between tenderness and crunch. Add Vegetables: Consider bell peppers, broccoli, or snap peas for extra nutrition. Make it Spicy: Add red pepper flakes or fresh chilies for a kick. Make Ahead: You can marinate the beef and chop vegetables in advance for quick prep. Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in a hot skillet or microwave.
