Ingredients

For the Cake
  • 1.5 cups 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cups 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder Use high-quality cocoa powder for the richest flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cups 1 cup Coca-Cola (not diet)
  • 0.5 cups ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Feel free to substitute coconut or almond extract for variations.
For the Frosting
  • 0.5 cups ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 0.25 cups ¼ cup milk
  • 0.25 cups ¼ cup Coca-Cola
  • 0.33 cups 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 cups 4 cups powdered sugar

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt, mixing until well blended.
  3. Add the Coca-Cola, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix gently until just combined, keeping the batter slightly lumpy for a moist cake texture.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Frosting
  1. While the cake is baking, prepare the frosting. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Then, stir in milk, Coca-Cola, and cocoa powder until well integrated.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and gradually whisk in the powdered sugar until smooth and creamy. Let it cool slightly once the cake is done.
Finalize
  1. Once the cake cools for about 10 minutes, spread the frosting over the top for a perfectly indulgent finish.
  2. Allow the cake to cool completely, and then slice and serve. Enjoy!

Notes

For a richer flavor, opt for high-quality cocoa and butter. Avoid overmixing the batter for a lighter texture. Try incorporating chopped pecans or walnuts for added crunch. Store the cake in an airtight container for up to five days at room temperature, or refrigerate for longer freshness. Substitute coconut milk and vegan butter in the frosting for a dairy-free option.
