Method
Cooking the Pasta
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually around 8-10 minutes.
Preparing the Sauce
- While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant but not browned.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and let it cook for about 5 minutes.
- Lower the heat, then stir in the heavy cream, dried basil, and sugar. Allow the sauce to simmer gently for another 5 minutes.
Combining Pasta and Sauce
- Once the pasta is ready, reserve 1/2 cup of the pasta cooking water, then drain the rest.
- Add the drained pasta directly to the sauce, tossing to coat. If the sauce seems too thick, add a bit of the reserved pasta water to reach your desired consistency.
Serving
- Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
- Serve immediately with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
Notes
For best results, use fresh garlic and high-quality tomatoes. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
