Ingredients

For the Donuts
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour freshly sifted for fluffiness
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk or buttermilk for richness
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Glaze
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar sifted for smoothness
  • 2-3 tbsp whole milk adjust for consistency
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract optional, for extra flavor

Method

Prepare Your Dough
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
Mix Wet Ingredients
  1. In another bowl, whisk the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Combine Mixtures
  1. Slowly pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay!
Let It Rest
  1. Allow the batter to rest for about 5–10 minutes. This step helps create a fluffier donut.
Preheat the Oil
  1. In a large pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Ensure there’s enough oil for frying about 3 inches deep.
Shape the Donuts
  1. Using a spoon or donut cutter, carefully scoop out rounds of batter and gently lower them into the hot oil.
Fry the Donuts
  1. Fry the donuts for about 1–2 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove them and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
Make the Glaze
  1. While the donuts cool slightly, whisk the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth and glossy.
Glaze the Donuts
  1. Dip the warm donuts into the glaze, turning to coat evenly. Place them on a wire rack and let the glaze set for about 10 minutes.

Notes

Frying Tip: Use a thermometer to maintain the oil temperature for the perfect golden brown. Store leftover donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer freshness, refrigerate them, but they may lose their delightful crunch. Substitute half the flour with whole wheat flour or use almond milk for a dairy-free version.
