Ingredients
  

For the Tennessee Onions
  • 4 large sweet onions, sliced Use large sweet onions for best flavor.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Or your favorite melting cheese.
  • 1 cup heavy cream Can be substituted with half-and-half for a lighter version.
  • 2 tablespoons butter For sautéing the onions.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust according to preference.
For Garnishing (optional)
  • to taste Fresh parsley, chopped For garnish.
  • to taste Additional cheese for topping Use your choice of cheese.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Slice the onions thinly into rings.
  3. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they become soft and translucent, about 10–12 minutes.
  4. Season the cooked onions with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to ensure an even distribution of flavors.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine heavy cream and half of the shredded cheese. Mix until well blended.
Assembly
  1. Layer the onions in a baking dish, pouring the cheese and cream mixture over each layer.
  2. Top the dish with the remaining cheese.
Cooking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes or until bubbly and the cheese begins to turn golden.
  2. Remove from the oven and let it sit for a few minutes to set before serving.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) until warmed through. Variations include adding mushrooms, bell peppers, or jalapeños for extra flavor.
