Preparation
- Begin by melting the semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals until smooth, stirring in between, which should take about 1-2 minutes.
- Spoon the melted semi-sweet chocolate into the heart-shaped molds, filling each about halfway. Tap the mold gently on the counter to eliminate air bubbles. Place the mold in the refrigerator and let it set for 10-15 minutes until hardened.
- While waiting, melt the white chocolate chips in a separate bowl using the same method. Once melted, stir in the peppermint extract and add a drop of food coloring for a festive hue, if desired.
- Remove the mold from the fridge and pour the flavored white chocolate over the semi-sweet chocolate layer until full. Sprinkle the crushed candy canes on top, pressing them down gently.
- Return the mold to the refrigerator for another 10-15 minutes to set completely.
- Once fully set, carefully remove the candy hearts from the mold.
Notes
Tips: Choose quality ingredients for better flavor. You can customize flavors using different extracts. For a low-calorie version, use sugar-free chocolate and candy canes. Store in an airtight container for up to two weeks.
