- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round or square baking pan lightly.
- In a mixing bowl, combine your peeled and chopped apples with half of the sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes to marinate and release juices.

- In a larger bowl, combine the remaining sugar with the self-rising flour. Gradually add the apple mixture, folding gently until well blended.
- Transfer the batter into your prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
- Place in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
Notes
Consider adding chopped nuts or raisins for texture. It is also delightful with a light dusting of powdered sugar or a dollop of whipped cream. This cake can be stored for 2-3 days at room temperature or up to a week in the fridge. Freeze slices for up to three months.
